First Unitarian Society of Rockland County

Welcome!

The First Unitarian Society of Rockland County, founded in 1956, is an independent religious organization affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. We are the denomination's only congregation in Rockland County. Our belief is in a religion without dogma, which allows the individual to develop a faith and values meaningful to his or her own life.
Unitarian Universalists focus their attention on human existence in the natural world and universe. Our concerns include spiritual, intellectual and ethical values as applied to the social and life issues of today.

The Spirituality of Science

One definition of spirituality is a concern for that which is unseen and intangible, as opposed to physical or mundane. To be termed scientific, on the other hand, a method of inquiry is usually based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. Yet the practice of science also involves insights, intuitions, emotions, and revelations. In its best moments, the scientist feels like she/he has a glimpse of the unknown laws that govern our universe. Please join me in considering the spirituality of the scientific process.

Having the Courage of Your Convictions

While we UUs don't spend much time thinking about or responding to the subject or time of Lent, this Sunday we will as we respond to the challenge of making our convictions real in this world.
